Mia Donovan is a documentary filmmaker based in Montreal. She first started documenting with photography in the early 2000s until she met Lara Roxx in 2005 and then spent the next 5 years shooting her first feature documentary INSIDE LARA ROXX (2011). Her second film, DEPROGRAMMED (2015), is inspired by her stepbrother's deprogramming from an alleged Satanic cult in the early 1990s by famed deprogrammer Ted Patrick. Her films have been presented worldwide at film festivals, on TV broadcasts, theatrically and on digital platforms. INSIDE LARA ROXX was nominated for a Jutra (now known as Prix Iris) in 2012, and she was awarded The Don Haig Award in 2012. DEPROGRAMMED is currently streaming worldwide (except Canada) on Netflix. In 2016 she created her first virtual reality project DEPROGRAMMED VR with Dpt. that was awarded the prestigious IDFA DocLab Award for Digital Storytelling that year. She is currently working with EyeSteelFilm on her third feature documentary, he second virtual reality experience and her first documentary short film.
